How many sets of molds are required to produce wood-plastic pergolas?

Yongte is a leading professional manufacturer of WPC pergola profiles production machinery, specializing in integrated turnkey project solutions. Beyond delivering high-performance equipment, we provide full-cycle technical support to help clients develop tailored product systems aligned with specific market demands.
Mold design for the pergola system is critically important. The number of molds required to manufacture wood-plastic pergolas depends on three core factors: structural complexity, dimensional variations among components, and the production technology employed. Standard pergola models typically require 3 to 6 core molds to meet fundamental manufacturing needs, whereas customized designswith intricate details or unique configurationsmay require 8 to 12 sets or more.

I. Core Molds for Standard Wood-Plastic Pergolas (Mandatory)

A structurally complete standard pergola generally consists of four major component categories: columns, crossbeams, roof beams (or purlins), and various connectors. Each category requires at least one dedicated extrusion mold.

1.  Column mold (1 set): Designed specifically for extruding load bearing column components. Cross-sectional shapes may be conventional (e.g., square or rectangular) or custom designed per project specifications.

2.  Crossbeam mold (1 set): Designed specifically for extruding the transverse main beam that connects the two side columns, serving as the primary lateral support and connection element.

3.  Purlin/mast mold (12 sets): Designed for extruding longitudinal load bearing or decorative purlins mounted atop the pergola. Simple designs typically require only one set of standard sized molds; more complex top structuresfeaturing varying cross-sectional dimensions or shapesmay necessitate two sets.

4.  Connector/decorative component molds (02 sets): Include small functional or aesthetic parts such as column caps, column bases, snap fasteners, and edge sealing strips. These molds may be omitted in minimal structure pergolas but are often essential for intricate, high aesthetic designs requiring dedicated tooling for each unique part.

II. Key Factors Influencing Mold Quantity

1.  Structural complexity: Single-layer, simply shaped pergolas typically require only 34 mold sets. In contrast, multi-layer pergolaswith irregular curves, integrated lattice patterns, or additional canopiesmay require 612 sets.

2.  Diversity of cross-sectional specifications: Even within a single component category (e.g., columns), multiple cross-sectional dimensions, wall thicknesses, or subtle design variations each require a dedicated mold set.

3.  Production process method:

Extrusion molding (mainstream process): Mold count is directly determined by the number of distinct cross-sections across all components; identical cross-sections share a single mold set.

4.  Customization level: Highly standardized, universal pergola products can be produced with a minimal mold configurationpotentially just 3 core molds. Conversely, fully custom pergolas, engineered to exact customer specifications, require dedicated molds for every unique component, strictly aligned with the design drawings.
