Which plastics can be used to make WPC decking?

In the production of wood-plastic WPC decking, plastic is one of the important raw materials, which needs to be combined with wood fiber and other materials, and needs to have good compatibility, processing and weather resistance. The following are some of the most commonly used plastic types:

Polytene PE

Polyethylene is one of the most commonly used plastics in wood-plastic flooring. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) offers superior strength and hardness, providing robust structural support for flooring systems. This makes it ideal for areas requiring load-bearing capacity, such as corridors and passageways. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE), on the other hand, demonstrates better flexibility, enhancing the flooring's elasticity. It proves particularly suitable for spaces needing cushioning performance, including children's rooms and gyms.

 Polypropylene PP

Polypropylene demonstrates exceptional weather resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, featuring a high melting point that ensures stable processing. Compared to polyethylene, wood-plastic flooring made from PP exhibits superior temperature tolerance and impact resistance, making it ideal for outdoor environments such as courtyards and patios. It effectively withstands erosion from natural elements including wind, sun exposure, and rain.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) demonstrates excellent stability and can be modified through the addition of plasticizers to enhance its performance. Its flame retardancy is also notable. Wood-plastic flooring made from PVC features a smooth surface that is easy to clean, making it ideal for indoor spaces requiring fire safety standards, such as shopping malls, office buildings, and hospitals with high foot traffic.
